I found the Gonzo Journalism writing style of Thompson’s
novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,
to be confusing and rapid. However, I found the story itself to be suspenseful
and interesting, even though I had troubles with following the storyline.
Thompson often jumped between scenes but he was able to portray specific
details efficiently. The story was about two men, Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo,
chasing the American Dream to become famous and rich, by reporting on the Mint
400 motorcycle race, but instead, were distracted by the events that unfolded,
such as using drugs and falling in madness. I believe that the genre of the
story as nonfiction is classified accordingly and I believe that the events
that occurred were authentic since drugs, like LSD, cocaine, and alcohol can
lead anyone insane and detour them from the American Dream as illustrated by
Thompson.
