Into the Wild...very into it.

I am a sucker for people who do what they want in life no matter how dumb it may seem to me. I admire the person who can go to the movies by themselves, the person who dances alone, the person who walks alone on the beach (maybe I'll be a bit skeptical of the latter), but none the less I am content with knowing that people can in fact live alone and be happy. I'm not talking about people who seclude themselves, but those who are content with being alone, but not being weird lonely people. Anyways...
Christopher McCandless, although he had a short life took a chance against the world and decided he would leave the comfort of his home and live in the wild. If I were him I would have picked a much nicer place with a warmer climate, I have lived in Chicago all my life and I still cannot get use to the winters we have, I would have chosen Hawaii or California, somewhere where the weather would be bearable. Nonetheless, he took a chance, which most people do not because they are afraid they might fail (can we real say that he failed). Death is inevitable, whether you die now or later does that make you a failure? It'll sneak up on you when you least expect it and there is no running away. Death is not a topic that people like to discuss because it is very hard to come across, we know it happens, but we would rather ignore it till we come across it.
McCandless, took a risk. Knowing the outcome would he have given up everything to do it, I'm not sure. I do think he was smart in taking a chance on something most people would not do, should he have been more prepared, yes, but how prepared can you be when you don't know what is going to happen. (All that education he got, I wonder where it went).

I mentioned in class that when I went out to eat with a friend we were talking about what we wanted to do for the summer if possible, the guy at the table behind us, interrupted our conversation and told us what he was going to do. He was going to travel through the U.S, alone on his motorcycle, he was heading to Maine then working his way west after. I wished him luck. I thought it was a great thing to do, just him and the open road, sounds like something in a movie that we don't think can be something in real life. After leaving the restaurant, I wished him good luck and I hope he makes it to where he wants to be and finds whatever it is he is looking for.

I think that when the opportunity comes along, you have to take a leap of faith and go for it. No matter the outcome if it is something that you love, it will be worth it. Definitely, take precautions but also don't let the bad things stop you from doing something amazing. Do it for the the sake of doing it. Try. Start small...and gradually go big.
