Into the Wild/Christopher Mccandless
"Into the Wild" is such a sad story. It seems to incorporate most of what we've been reading. Chris' search for nature and God, his need to leave society/parental issues, traveling, living in nature, etc. I think this is a good contrast to my point I made in my Fear and Loathing blog that the American Dream is money. Chris, at the beginning, seems to want to flee from his comfortable living and financial situation. It breaks my heart that he can't go back to civilization once we realizes that he was most happy being with others because of nature itself. Ugh, so sad. People shouldn't talk about him in a negative way. He felt that he needed to get away and be secluded like Henry David Thoreau. He didn't ask to suffer and die like that. Nor was his death fitting. It's a real shame.
