I was fascinated by Spalding Gray’s performance in Swimming
to Cambodia. I was impressed with his acting, fast paced narrative, and stories
all together. He was able to express many emotions of his different stories all
the same time. I could relate to his stories regarding American politics, the
Cold war, and Cambodia, as authentic and true.
I found out that later in life, he suffered from a car accident that
left him paralyzed in his right leg and a fracture in his skull. Along with his
bipolar sickness, and depressions, this scarred him fiercely. He committed
suicide in 2004, perhaps his neurologist said, a last attempt at ending his
story. This saddened me because I believe his creativity and stories were a
gift and his life would of contributed more to the world than his death.
