I enjoyed reading Joan Didion’s, Slouching Towards Bethlehem. In her writings, she focused on
California as the center, mainly the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco
as the hub of cultural diversity. Her writing style was unique and spirited.
Just as the title depicts, there is a
loss of energy towards faith, rejuvenation, and beliefs. She loses herself
within the community by encountering different cultures and using drugs. She
emphasizes how she and others were not taught the rules of the game and how her
generation became lost and disconnected becoming the victims of society during
the 60’s. I feel that Didion empowered women and the feminist community by
being proud of themselves and from the experiences that they have lived.
